JAPAN OPEN POKER TOUR 2024 Tokyo 107th/2511
My primary arena is cash games; tournaments are not my natural domain. Yet in a field of 2,511 entrants — the largest domestic tournament of its kind — I chose to turn that very unfamiliarity into an edge. The strategy I employed was one of variance minimization. While grounded in GTO (Game Theory Optimal) principles, I deliberately deviated from theoretically correct play, reading opponents' tendencies and exploiting situational imbalances at the table. I committed to maximizing expected value against specific players and specific conditions, sustaining this approach with discipline across two grueling days of play. In the later stages, I shifted gears toward a survival-oriented strategy informed by ICM (Independent Chip Model), weighing the competing imperatives of preservation and accumulation on every single decision through to the final phase. Finishing 107th was not a product of short-term variance. It was a demonstration of reproducible skill — tested over an extended period where the quality of decision-making is everything: observation, judgment, restraint, and the resolve to act decisively when the moment demands it.
