2017年、広尾学園中学校の全学年プレゼンテーション大会に出場し、ひと学年302名の中から最高位の「プレゼン大賞」を受賞しました。発表タイトルは「『常識』から見る『進歩』とは何か」。このプレゼンテーションの核は、「常識」と見なされている集合知がいかに脆く、絶対的なものではないか、という強烈な問題提起でした。歴史的な事例として、アルフレッド・ウェゲナーが提唱した大陸移動説が、当初学会で門前払いであった事実や、科学的真実が時の権威に否定されたガリレオ・ガリレイの地動説をめぐる宗教裁判を取り上げました。これらの具体例を丹念に検証することで、「常識」がいかに人の視界を狭めるトンネルビジョンであるかを、聴衆に5分間にわたって訴えかけました。そして、既存の知識や価値観を疑い、根拠をもって真実を追求する批判的思考力を身につける教育の重要性を力強く説きました。「当たり前」を問う深い洞察力と、歴史的事実に基づく論理的な説得力、加えてスティーブ・ジョブズ風の、背面のスライドを一度たりとも見ることなく、壇上を左右に闊歩しながら観衆に抑揚交えながら訴えかける独創的なプレゼンスタイルが、最高位受賞の要因となりました。 In 2017, I participated in the Hiroo Gakuen Junior High School All-Grade Presentation Competition and was awarded the highest honor, the 'Grand Presentation Award,' among 302 students in my grade. The presentation was titled 'What is 'Progress' from the Viewpoint of 'Common Sense'.' The core of the argument was a powerful critique of how fragile and non-absolute collective knowledge, often labeled as 'common sense,' truly is. To build this case, I referenced historical instances such as the initial dismissal of Alfred Wegener’s theory of continental drift by the scientific establishment, and the religious trial against Galileo Galilei concerning heliocentrism—a scientific truth rejected by the authorities of the time. Through a careful examination of these examples, I argued over a concentrated five minutes how 'common sense' often enforces tunnel vision, severely limiting human perspective. I then forcefully advocated for the critical importance of education that nurtures critical thinking—the ability to rigorously question existing values and pursue truth based on evidence. The decisive factors for winning the top prize were not limited to simple presentation skill. They encompassed the blend of profound insight that challenged the accepted norms, the logical persuasiveness rooted in historical facts, and a unique Steve Jobs-esque delivery style: I engaged the audience with varied vocal dynamics while confidently pacing the stage, never once turning back to glance at the presentation slides behind me.
