“Quiet quitting” is the latest buzzword in the workplace. What it means isn’t literal. Instead, it describes a rejection of the hustle culture of going above and beyond what their job descriptions entail.

While quiet quitting helps maintain healthy boundaries at work and remove oneself from toxic productivity, this phenomenon costs companies money and affects the morale of existing employees. If the shift in employee behaviour becomes dire, HR must step in because of these production gaps.

The employer and employee are responsible for creating an environment where their talents and contributions are noticed and appreciated. Addressing challenges surrounding disengagement and a culture fostering a sense of belonging will mitigate the risks of quiet quitting.
