Finding The Perfect Fit – Planning for a Team

If you ever had to do a group project in school, chances are you’ve gotten a preview of what an unproductive team looks like. Of course you have the obvious problems, but what would happen to a team made of all the smartest, most determined kids in the class. How would that team fare?

Things could be okay, but there’s just as good a chance clashing ideas and personalities could lead to disaster. When you’re deciding who to hire, it can be easy to get caught up in choosing people who are ‘the best’ at what they do. When push comes to shove though, you aren’t asking your employees to work in a vacuum, and making sure that they’ll fit together as a team can be just as important.

Before you begin hiring, try mapping out the team dynamics you’re looking for. Who is in charge of what? Which positions will be working together closely? Of course you want employees who are good at what they do, but for a truly productive team you’ll want to think just as much about how they fit into their positions.
