Meet Xiandi, Loh. As one of our core members of the Business Development team at Wantedly, he is the second official person to join our Singapore team when we began last year!
His 'do or die' mentality with everything he does is infectious and encourages us to never give up on our mission to create a world, where work drives passion in our city. From rock climbing to always finding chocolates wherever we go, we wouldn't be Team Wantedly without him! Here's how he became an integral part of our team.
What do you do at Wantedly?
I’m a business developer. I take care of the whole sales process at Wantedly. A day in my life includes a mixture of things - from qualifying leads and prospecting companies to showing how we can help them hire.
What’s your tagline (or life motto)?
Either you win or you learn. In a sense, there is no failure - every scenario is always an opportunity to learn.
What’s your go-to lunch?
My mom’s home packed food.
What was your first job post-graduation?
A few friends and I started our own photo booth company. Then, our own carpentry startup. One was a boom, and one was a bust.
We chose the photo booth because it was really fun going to events and meeting new people. The people around me all had very entrepreneurial spirits. It was a bit of rebelliousness that made me want to start my own thing and not work for a big corporation straight out of university.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I’m quite an open book. I’m a huge aviation geek. It started when I was really young when I took my first flight to Bangkok. The interest was reignited when my girlfriend took me on a test flight in Malaysia last year.
I write about it in my spare time. From basic principles of flight and the anatomy of the engine to dealing with technical interviews when becoming a pilot, it’s a hobby of mine.
Number one thing on your bucket list currently is:
Becoming a pilot!
What do you hope to accomplish this year?
Reaching the goals we set out for at the beginning of the year for Wantedly.
As one of the first members of Wantedly Singapore, how’d you discover Wantedly/what attracted you the most to joining the company?
Weiting, our country manager, was an old schoolmate of mine. We reconnected after a few years, and I found the essence of Wantedly - matching companies based on mission and values rather than salary and benefits - something very intriguing, and I knew this was something I wanted to pursue.
It’s all part of the thrill - being able to launch this mission in a new market. I’m really passionate about always exploring and experimenting, and Wantedly was the perfect opportunity to do so.
Thoughts on our growth this past year?
I definitely feel a sense of achievement, but it’s still too early to say. We’ve come a long way, but we still are growing. There’s always room to grow with anything.
Favourite moment with Wantedly?
When we moved to the new office. It was an indication that we were growing - we needed more space! It’s a physical representation of us expanding. We started with only three people, and now we’re a team of fourteen!
Best thing you learned in your career so far?
Perseverance is key. When things get tough, just trust you’re doing the right thing and go for it. Once you use your brain to figure out how to solve the problem, you have to use your will to push it forward.
I love Wantedly because…
...we are like a family. We literally represent the mission we’re trying to push into the world today. We love working together, and we love solving problems together. I love coming into work because of them.
In Behind Wantedly, we highlight our team members - from our individual quirks/interests to our personal goals for Wantedly. We strongly believe that people are what drive the success of any company, no matter what industry. It's through these unique qualities of each individual that can make any team great. Get to know us in a different light - you'd be surprised to learn about our diverse backgrounds!
