Smithereens
Smithereens is a dining chair designed to create a new dining experience, focusing on providing a space for a user's belonging. A line 'runs' from the chair leg to backrest and which stops at a point to allow users to experience a 'locking' experience for their belongings. This is a collaboration project that kicked off in Thailand with a seven-day workshop in November 2016, after which students collaborate online to realise their designs with the fabrication of 1:1 scale prototypes in Thailand. Each design team consist of two King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi and two Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Smithereens is a manufactured by Thai manufacture , Deesawat. It is titled 'Back to Basic'. Smithereens was showcased in The FurnitureORIGINS exhibition which is presented as part of a slew of activities under Singapore Design Week 2017.
