As a teacher - Award winners must be proficient in all aspects of teaching from planning and preparation to adjusting to the level of the students and creating a warm and engaging learning environment. As a professional - This area focuses on a number of professional competencies. Starting from communication skills with both the school/client and office staff and flexibility in their approach to the job, to adherence to rules and regulations and their overall positive behavior and impression. No matter the challenge, a professional attitude is always exhibited by the instructor. As a role model - We hope that all our instructors endeavor to exhibit actions in line with a role model each and every day. This, in turn, reflects on the children, Japanese teachers, and other instructors that they interact with. We also look at the ability of the instructor to improve themself over the course of the year as a teacher and professional and the impact they have on the surrounding community and their school(s)/board of education.
