I have worked on creating a pair of glasses for my final year project that helped blind and legally blind people by functioning as their virtual eye. The glasses detected the most prominent thing at a particular time and will use various appropriate deep learning modules (Scene Text Detection, Optical Character Recognition, Vehicle Detection, Object Detection, Image Classification) to classify/detect/recognize the object and give output in the form of audio via ear pieces. For legally blind people, we also used a workaround which utilized auto focus and magnification of objects in such a way that the person was able to see things around him/her. This was done by taking an input feed from a camera, and zooming in to an object according to a visual acuity/vision of a person and the distance of the object from the year. The corresponding feed from the camera is then shown to a small screen attached to the glasses according to the optimal values. That enabled the visually impaired people to see for the first time without any lag in his/her visual acuity.
