至善館で2つの役割を担うデリックさんに至善館で働くことの魅力についてお伺いしました。至善館で働くことの意義やどんなやりがいを感じているのか少しでも感じていただけたら嬉しいです♪（日英併記でご紹介します）

自己紹介と入職したきっかけ

こんにちは！私の名前はデリックです。ベトナムにルーツを持ち、オーストラリアで育ちました。大学卒業後は海外で過ごしたいと思い、ワーキングホリデービザで日本に来ることにしました。もう20年近く前のことです。至善館に入職する前は、京都の呉服会社で国際事業開発チームのプロジェクトマネージャーを務めていました。当時の経験から、日本の伝統工芸企業が21世紀に生き残るためには、ビジネスのリーダーシップが重要な役割を果たしていることを痛感しました。また、ビジネス領域のみならず、ソーシャルインパクトとサステナビリティを志向し、次世代のビジネスリーダーを支援できる教育は、ビジネスリーダーシップの育成のために有効な手段であると気づきました。それが私が約1年半前に至善館に入職した主な理由です。
Hello! My name is Derrick, I grew up in Australia with my roots in Vietnam. After graduating from university, I wanted to spend some time overseas, so I decided to come to Japan on a working holiday visa. That was nearly 20 years ago! Before joining Shizenkan I worked for a kimono company in Kyoto where I was a project manager in the international business development team. I realized that business leadership played an important part in helping traditional craft companies survive in the 21st century. I also realized education was one way to do so on a bigger stage by supporting the next generation of business leaders not only in the typical areas of business but also towards social impact and sustainability. That is the main reason why I joined Shizenkan nearly 1 and a half years ago.

至善館での私の仕事

私は、至善館で２つの役割を担っています。 1 つはプログラムコーディネーター、もう 1 つは外国籍の学生募集の担当です。 1 年次のプログラムコーディネーターとしての主な役割には、コース（科目）の組織化、運営、サポートなどが含まれます。従来の MBA プログラムと比較した場合、私たちのコースをユニークなものにしているのは、多くのステークホルダーの存在です。私はスケジュールの調整やコース教材の準備、担当するコースの学生専用のポータルサイトを管理しています。運営面では、教室の設営を準備したり、登壇いただくゲストスピーカーの対応をしたり、授業中の学びの「場」の空気を感じとり、最適な学習環境となるように調整をを図ったりしています。さらに、授業以外でも、学生が仕事と生活と勉強のバランス、時間管理、在学生と卒業生の間でのコミュニティ構築をうまくできるように、学生からの相談や質問に応えるようにしています。
I have recently been wearing two hats at Shizenkan. One as a program coordinator and the other as an international student recruiter. As one of the program coordinators for our first-year students the main roles involve the main areas of organization, operations, and support. There are many stakeholders involved that make our courses unique when compared to a traditional MBA program. I organize schedules, course materials, and maintain our online student portal for the courses that I am in charge of. On the operations side of things, I set up the room equipment, attend to invited guest speakers, and monitor changes in the mood and make adjustments accordingly to maximize the learning environment. Additionally, I support students with their queries outside the classroom such as providing an ear to listen to their juggling of work-life-study balance, time management, and community building amongst current students and the alumni body. 

また、至善館のプロモーションのために、私は学生募集のチームメンバーとして、東京の大使館、専門の協会、商工会議所など様々な外国人コミュニティやネットワークとの関係を構築し、常にコミュニケーションが可能な関係を維持する役割を担っています。また少数精鋭のマーケティングチームと密接に連携しながら、 毎年潜在的な候補者を見つけてアプローチし、彼らに出願してもらえるよう、プレゼンテーションを行ったり、問い合わせに答えたりもしています。大使館への訪問や、ネットワーキングイベントやフォーラムの参加も私の役割の一部であると同時に、このようなコミュニティやネットワークに対して、至善館がどのような支援ができるか学ぶ機会にもなっています。支援の事例として、例えば、至善館の理念や使命に共鳴する団体とのイベントを主催したことが挙げられます。至善館とは何なのか、何をしているのか、何を成し遂げようとしているのかについて、主催者や参加者がより理解を深め、笑顔でイベントを後にしていくのを見た時に、とてもやりがいを感じます。
To promote Shizenkan, I am also a member of the student recruitment team, where I am responsible for building relationships and keep communication channels open with the expat communities and networks such as embassies in Tokyo, professional associations, and various chambers of commerce. Working closely with our small yet powerful marketing team, I give presentations and answer inquiries to help our supporters identify and approach potential candidates each year to apply to our MBA program. Visiting embassies, attending networking events, and participating in forums is all a part of this role, which is also a great opportunity to learn how we can support such communities and networks. An example would be hosting events for organizations that resonate with Shizenkan’s philosophy and mission. There is a lot of enjoyment when organizers and participants alike leave with a smile and a better understanding of what Shizenkan is, does, and wants to achieve.

仕事に対する思いやミッションについて

至善館は、新進気鋭のビジネスリーダーに、ビジネス上の問題を解決するだけでなく、社会課題の解決にも貢献できる全人格的なリーダーとなるための素養を磨く場を提供するために、2018年に設立された教育機関です。創立してから日はは浅いですが、運営母体のNPO法人ISLの受講生ネットワークや教員、卒業生のネットワークを活かして、社会問題に関する豊富な知見と専門知識にアクセスすることができます。これからの至善館を共に創り上げていく過程では、同じ志を持つ仲間と協働して、自律的に、当事者意識を持って働くことができます。また、ソーシャルとビジネスの両方のセクターの、各業界のトップ、専門家、実務家と出会い、仕事を通じた学びに恵まれている点も利点といえます。業務に慣れてきたら、至善館が実施する教育プログラムだけでなく、教育を通じて社会課題の解決を目指す、他の国際機関や教育機関との共同プロジェクトに主体的に関わっていくことになるでしょう。一人ひとりが自分の担当するコースやプロジェクトに責任を持ちながら、志を同じくする同志と共に、それぞれの強みを生かして、様々な形やレベルで変化を起こすことで、至善館が目指す理想に近づけていきます。
Shizenkan is a relatively young educational institution that was established in order to give up-and-coming business leaders a place to develop their skills to become whole-person leaders to not only solve business problems but to also be a part of the solution in tackling societal issues. Though we are young, we have access to a wealth of knowledge and expertise through our faculty, alumni network, and from our parent organization. There are several benefits in becoming a co-creator at Shizenkan such as self-learning opportunities, having a sense of ownership, and being surrounded by like-minded individuals. It is a great opportunity to learn on the job, where you get to meet the titans of industry, experts and practitioners of their respective fields on both sides of the public and private sectors. Once settled in, there are chances to have a sense of ownership with the many academic programs Shizenkan runs internally and collaborative projects with other international organizations and education institutions towards social impacts through education. Though you may be responsible for your own courses and projects, the sense of Shizenkan’s purpose is reinforced by like-minded individuals that use their strengths to make a difference in various forms and levels.

どんな人に応募して欲しいか、仲間になって欲しいか

すべての職員は、21 世紀のニーズにふさわしい MBA プログラムの提供に向けて、教員や至善館の関係者と協働するクリエイターとみなされます。対応力があり、主体的で、優れたコミュニケーションスキルを持っている方なら、至善館でさらにキャリア開発ができるでしょう。至善館はまだ成長途上にあるため、当事者意識をもって環境変化に機敏に対応することが不可欠です。新しいプロジェクトや進行中のプロジェクトにいつアサインされるかわかりません。クリエイターとして主体的に活動しながら、チームでも協働できるスキルは間違いなく有利です。組織の全体像を理解した後は、チームの目標と個人の目標の達成に向けて重要な役割を果たすことになるでしょう。あらゆる環境における多様なステークホルダーにメッセージを伝えるには、コミュニケーションスキルも必須です。良いソリューションについて、アイデアや意見をだすことも高く評価されると思います。そんな経験ができる環境に興味のある方からの応募をお待ちしております。
All staff are regarded as co-creators that partner with our faculty and non-teaching members towards delivering an MBA program worthy and applicable for needs of the 21st century. If you are agile, pro-active, and have great communication skills then Shizekan could be a place for you to develop your career. As we are still growing, being agile with your responsibilities and time management is essential. You never know when you are invited to join a new or on-going project! The ability to work in teams whilst being pro-active as an individual co-creator is definitely an advantage. Once understanding the whole picture, you will play an important part in the scheme of things towards achieving team objectives and personal goals. Communication skills are also a must to get your message across to various stakeholders in different settings. Voicing your ideas and opinions on top offering solutions is very much valued.
