  • Workflow study and process re-engineering

    The company I worked for: Way Yat Industrial Limited (wholly-owned subsidiary of Esquel Enterprises Limited) Purpose: To streamline the workflow and increase the productivity Methodology: Workflow study and redesign – draw the workflow in diagram and examine in details for each step/process Motion & time study – measure the time spend on each task and calculate the throughput, identify the bottleneck, standardize the operation procedure for sewing motion of each workstation Try to find other alternatives to which step/process can be substituted /cancelled for simplification, decide how to exploit the bottleneck Subordinate everything else to the above decision Repeat the procedures and move on to identify and exploit the next bottleneck for on-going improvement Achievement: Increased the productivity from ~80% to ~85% and achieved the monthly production target. Reduced the units of Working In Progress (WIP) between the workstation in production line
