TORAJAMELO is a slow, ethical, sustainable, lifestyle brand that is working towards alleviating the cycle of systemic poverty in rural excluded communities, preserving cultural heritage of “backstrap loom weaving” in Indonesia, preventing breakdown of rural communities due to outward migration, and environmental sustainability of natural habitats.

How we do

COMMERCE: TORAJAMELO is an ethical-slow fashion lifestyle brand that showcases the stories of Indonesia to the world. We cater to both B2B and B2C customers. COMMUNITY COLLABORATION: Our core pillar is the design and development of sustainable weaving practices that preserve the authenticity of the craft while staying relevant to the evolving market. We also explore additional sources of income for our partner communities through “Community Based Ecotourism” and regenerative economy projects. CONSULTANCY: Our consultancy pillar provides advisory services to corporations on ESG and UN SDG and how they can integrate these principles into their businesses. We also offer mentoring and coaching support to impact businesses on how to thrive in the current times while staying true to their core purpose.

As a new team member

TORAJAMELO is an award winning inclusive impact enterprise headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia and expanding into Singapore and Japan. A certified B Corp, it was founded in 2008, it specially focuses on collaborating with women artisans and entrepreneurs from rural excluded communities in order to achieve the following: - Alleviation of cycle of systemic poverty by providing livelihood(s) - Cultural sustainability of “weaving” in Indonesia - Preventing break down of families and community due to outward migration In 2023, TORAJAMELO launched AHANA as a platform and movement dedicated to driving the widespread adoption of responsible consumption across B2B and B2C, collaboratively with locally curated sustainable brands and products. Through AHANA, we endorse UN SDGs 1 - No Poverty, 5 - Gender Equality, 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth, 10 - reduced Inequalities, 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities , 12 - Sustainable consumption, 13 - Climate Action, 17 - Partnership across Goals. Role Description: - Work closely with the CEO and Commercial team to discuss business development and strategic project opportunities, in line with TORAJAMELO’s best practice. - Create, develop and monitor business development/operation reports and draw in data to gather business insights. Interns will have the opportunity to make recommendations to implement optimal marketing and sales strategies. - Research, suggest and execute business development, and reporting tools - Develop and execute acquisition plan to attract more partners - Conducts research which includes competitive analysis, market research, business developments, and gathering insights to support and innovate TORAJAMELO business functions. - Establish and maintain relationships with partners - Possibility of a cross-department work, where interns have the opportunity to have first hand experience in other TORAJAMELO business functions. Candidate Requirements: - Google suite proficiency - Analytical, data-driven and comfortable working with data - Innovative, creative, and has awareness of recent business developments and/or has the willingness to learn and stay informed on these matters - Passion for the environment, rural economies, and impact businesses - Entrepreneurial attitude - Agile and flexible Candidate Year Preference: - Undergrad Year 2 - Undergrad Year 3 - Undergrad Year 4 - Masters This is a full-time role and the expected hours per week are 40 hours. You will likely focus on international business expansion e.g. Singapore and Japan, as opposed to the home market i.e. Indonesia.
