ファハド パーベッツ マハディ (Fahad Parvez Mahdi) / 研究開発本部 プロダクト開発部 リサーチャー(Research Engineer, Product Development Department of Research and Development Division)

バングラデシュ出身。バングラデシュでダッカ大学卒業後、マレーシアのペトロナス工科大学で理学修士を取得。2017年9月に来日し、兵庫県立大学で研究助手を経てコンピューターサイエンスの博士号を取得、その後は東京工業大学で博士研究員として活動する傍ら、2022年より業務委託でフツパーの研究開発に関わり、2023年4月、正社員として参画。

He is originally from Bangladesh. After graduating from Dhaka University, he obtained a Master of Science degree from University Technology PETRONAS in Malaysia. He came to Japan in September 2017 and joined the University of Hyogo as a Research Assistant. He then passed the entrance exam and joined the doctoral course. After working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Tokyo Institute of Technology since 2022, he became involved in research and development at Hutzper Inc. as a contracted entrustee. Finally, he joined Hutzper Inc. as a full-time employee in April 2023.

ダッカ大学での専攻と研究テーマはどういうものでしたか？専攻として選んだのはなぜですか？（What was your major and the theme of research at University of Dhaka? And why did you choose it as your major?）

私はダッカ大学で学位を取得したんですが、専攻は応用物理学、電子工学、通信工学でした。ダッカ大学は東のオックスフォードと呼ばれ、バングラデシュで最も名高い大学の一つです。（I did my undergraduate from University of Dhaka. My major was applied physics, electronics and communication engineering. University of Dhaka is called the Oxford of the East, which means it is one of the most prestigious universities in Bangladesh.）

この大学の主要な専攻の一つが応用物理学、電子工学、通信工学でした。その大学のトップである研究を専攻としたかったので、これらを選びました。私の卒業後、その学科は電気電子工学に改名されたんですが。（And one of the top subjects of this university was applied physics, electronics and communication engineering. That's why I chose this subject as my major as I wanted to study the top subject of my university. However, after my graduation the department was renamed as electrical and electronic engineering.）

私の学部生としての研究プロジェクトのメインテーマは、カメラを使用した監視のための顔認識でした。（The main theme of my undergraduate research project was face recognition for surveillance using cameras.）

コンピューターサイエンス分野の学位を取得した後にエンジニアリングを勉強されたとのことですが、どうしてチャレンジしようと思ったのですか？（Why did you try to learn engineering after you got the master of computer science?）

私は学部卒業後、研究型の理学修士課程に入学しました。このプログラムは完全に研究に基づくもので、私の研究プロジェクトは、コンピュータエンジニアリングのトピックである最適化問題における計算知能に関するものでした。（After my undergraduate, I was enrolled in a master of science by research program. This was a fully research based program and my research project was related to computational intelligence in optimization problems which is a computer engineering topic.）

そのため、私の修士課程は一般的な科学というよりもエンジニアリングにより関連があるものだったんです。（Thus, my masters program was more related to engineering than general science.）

来日された目的は何だったんですか？（What was the purpose of coming to Japan?）

最先端の研究に参加するというのが、変わらない私の夢でした。しかし、それを実現するためには、必要な技術を身に着けるためのトレーニングが必須でした。そのため、私はさらに高いレベルの学習を続けることを選びました。（It was always my dream to participate in cutting edge research. But, I needed necessary skills and training to do that. That's why I chose to continue my higher studies.）

日本政府は、文部科学省(MEXT)の奨学金を通じて、私の希望に合う機会を提供していました。私はその奨学金を受け、日本でのより高いレベルの教育を受けることができました。（The government of Japan provides such opportunities through the prestigious monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship. I was awarded the MEXT scholarship to complete my higher study in Japan.）

フツパーのことはどのようにして知りましたか？（How did you know about Hutzper?）

採用サイトを通じて、今井さんからご連絡をもらい、フツパーの紹介をしていただきました。（I was contacted by Imai-san through a recruiting website. He introduced Hutzper to me.）

面談したテクノキング今井さんの第一印象（First Impressions from Interview with Techno King Mr. Imai.）

まず、研究者として非常に優秀な方だと思いました。研究者って、書いた論文がどれだけ引用されるかというのが研究力のひとつの指標なんですけど、ファハドさんの論文の引用数は3桁を超えるものもあり驚きました。受賞歴も多いのですが、その上人柄もすごく良い方です。当時は僕が2～3回目の英語面接で、不慣れなところもあったのですが、すごく丁寧に話してくれて感激したのを覚えています。リサーチャーとしてとびぬけて優秀な点に加えて、コミュニケーション能力も高いファハドさんは、AIモデル開発を一緒に進めていける強力な仲間になるだろうなと感じました。（First of all, I thought Dr. Fahad was an extremely excellent researcher. As a researcher, one of the indicators of research ability is how many times their papers are cited, and I was amazed to know that some of Dr. Fahad's papers had citations in the hundreds. He has also won many awards, and on top of that, he is a very kind person. At the time, I was in my second or third English interview and I was a little inexperienced, but I remember being impressed by how politely he spoke to me. In addition to being an outstanding researcher, Dr. Fahad's grate communication skills make him a strong ally for developing AI models together.）

フツパーへの入社を決めるにあたって、もっとも魅力的だったのはどういうところですか？（What was the most attractive for you when you decided to join Hutzper?）

最初、スタートアップ企業に参加することに躊躇はありました。でも、まずは面接に参加してみることで、面接に関する知識を深めることができるんじゃないかと感じ、良いのではと思ったんです。（At the beginning, I was reluctant to join a start-up company. But, I thought it would be a good idea to attend an interview. I thought it would enhance my knowledge about job interviews.）

二次面接はオンラインだったんですが、社長の大西さんとCTO弓場さんとの面接に参加したとき、私は安心感と同時に、居心地がいいと感じました。私は職場を考える時、雰囲気が良いということが最も必要なことだと思っています。そして、フツパーではそんな雰囲気の中で働けると思えました。それが私がこの会社に参画することを決めるのに至った、フツパーの最も魅力的な部分だと思います。（But, when I joined the second interview with Onishi-san and Yumiba-san through google meet, I felt a sense of peace and comfort. I think it is necessary to have a good atmosphere in your workplace. After that meeting, I believed that I would get such an atmosphere in Hutzper. I think it was the most attractive part of Hutzper that helped me to decide to join this company.）

フツパーでどのようなことを目指されていますか？（What is your goal at Hutzper?）

私がフツパーで目指す最も大きなゴールは、最新の技術を導入し、最高のサービスをお客様に提供することです。そしてもう一つ、研究開発本部の中に、最強の研究グループを作り、最先端のコンピュータビジョンモデルを作成することで、フツパーのビジネスを急速に拡大・成長させることです。（My primary goal at Hutzper is to introduce the latest technology so that it can provide the best service to its clients. My other goal is to create a strong research group within the research and development division so that it can produce cutting edge computer vision models to rapidly increase and improve the business of Hutzper.）
